BREA, Calif. (August 18, 1999) – What’s better than winning the prestigious IMTEC Innovation Award? Winning it twice in a row. And that is exactly what Suzuki Marine has done, receiving honors from the boating press for technical innovation and excellence in the Engines/Motors/Propulsion category at both the 1997 and 1998 IMTEC shows.
Suzuki Marine is the first engine manufacturer in the marine industry to pull off such a feat. At last year’s show, Suzuki won for its new 40/50 EFI Four-Stroke outboards, which boast a variety of technological advancements not found on any motors in their class. These include a four-valves-per-cylinder/dual overhead cam design, digital electronic fuel injection and a tuned long-branch intake manifold. Suzuki’s 40/50 four-strokes also offer breakthroughs never seen before on outboards of any size, including an oil-bathed timing chain with an automatic hydraulic tensioner for improved durability and the marine industry’s first direct ignition system for improved performance and less electronic interference.
Suzuki won the 1997 Innovation Award for its highly advanced 60/70 horsepower EFI Four-Stroke outboards. These motors later became Suzuki’s most successful new product launch in terms of retail sales, and continue to win over boaters for their smooth, quiet operation and outstanding fuel efficiency.
Suzuki also took the very first IMTEC Innovation Award back in 1987; making three wins for the company overall. This is also a milestone that no other company in the marine industry can claim.
