SUZUKI INTRODUCES 150- AND 175-HORSEPOWER 4-STROKE OUTBOARD MOTORS FOR 2006
New Fuel-Injected Four-Cylinder Motors Feature Big-Block Design, Largest Displacement and Highest Power-to-Weight Ratio in the 4-Stroke, Four-Cylinder Category

With the launch of its new 150- and 175-horsepower 4-stroke outboards for 2006, Suzuki Marine has proven once again that bigger isn't only better - it's lighter, stronger and faster, as well. This proof comes in the form of a new big-block in-line four-cylinder design with the largest displacement (2867cc) of any 4-stroke, four-cylinder motor in this horsepower class, for low-end torque that powers heavy loads out of the hole and acceleration that keeps pulling right through wide-open throttle. While this sort of performance won't surprise boaters who have driven Suzuki 4-stroke outboards, they might be surprised that these new big-block 4-strokes are lighter than any competitive 4-stroke. In fact, at 465 pounds, these high-tech motors weigh about the same as Suzuki's previous 2-stroke 150-horsepower outboards.

This industry-leading power-to-weight ratio makes Suzuki's new DF150 and DF175 an ideal match for a wide variety of freshwater and saltwater boats. Freshwater anglers will appreciate the hole shot and blistering top-end on bass boats, multi-species boats and big-water aluminum fishing boats. Saltwater fishermen will love these new Suzukis for their range-extending fuel efficiency, reliable reputation and special anti-corrosion finish bonded directly to the aluminum alloy. And Suzuki's trademark "no-compromise" 4-stroke performance makes these motors perfect for pontoon and deck boats, bay boats, skiffs and family runabouts.

From top to bottom, Suzuki's DF150 and DF175 are packed with sophisticated technology not seen before on this class of motor. Both motors employ dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. In addition, the DF175 features Suzuki's proven Variable Valve Timing (VVT), a technological advancement shared with Suzuki's award-winning 250-horsepower V6 4-stroke. With VVT, the intake cam timing is continually adjusted to maximize performance. It also reduces emissions and increases fuel economy, especially important for tournament pros and serious anglers who go the extra mile to get on fish.

Both these new 4-strokes are built with lightweight forged aluminum pistons, allowing the engine to rev up faster and provide quicker throttle response. Because Suzuki engineers know that an engine that breathes better runs better, they designed an exclusive three-piece composite intake manifold that reduces overall engine weight and provides an efficient path for fresh air from the intake system at the rear of the cowling. Suzuki's multi-stage induction system changes the length of intake manifold pipes according to engine speed for improved combustion and optimum performance at any rpm. An exclusive spherical bore throttle body produces smoother airflow when the throttle begins to open due to its distinct shape. This results in improved throttle control and stable engine operation at low rpm.

In the tradition of Suzuki's other award-winning 4-strokes, the new DF150 and DF175 feature advanced digital sequential electronic fuel injection for outstanding performance, instant throttle response, improved fuel economy and low emissions (both received a 3-star Ultra Low Emissions rating from the California Air Resources Board). A powerful 32-bit onboard computer monitors a variety of engine sensors and controls the multi-point sequential fuel injection and direct ignition system for optimum performance in all conditions.

The advanced fuel system uses a water-cooled heat exchanger to lower the temperature of the fuel before it reaches the engine. This system increases the density of the fuel and boosts power output. Suzuki's high-output 44-amp alternator, to power today's modern fishing electronics, features a water-cooled regulator for improved reliability and longevity. Both new motors also come with a standard battery isolator system that keeps the juice flowing where it's needed most. You can drain down your boat's house battery powering trolling motors, electronics or livewell pumps while still maintaining a fully charged cranking battery. When the motor is started, the system senses the low charge in the house battery and quickly brings it up to full charge.

To deliver the powerful acceleration boaters want, Suzuki engineers developed a beefy lower unit and gear case with a final drive ratio of 2.50:1. With the lowest gear ratio in the class, Suzuki's new DF150 and DF175 can handle larger diameter, higher pitch propellers than the competition. With low-end torque, powerful gearing, 20- and 25-inch shaft lengths and available counter rotation for dual applications, these new motors are versatile performers on any type of boat.

There is more to these new high-tech 4-strokes than power, versatility and reliability. Suzuki designed these motors to be smooth and quiet on the water, as well. A sophisticated counter-balancing system is chain-driven off the crankshaft and mounted to the front of the block to cancel out horizontal vibrations. The DF150 and DF175 also feature a thrust mounting system - a Suzuki first - to absorb and reduce engine vibrations at speeds below 2000 rpm. And Suzuki's proven offset driveshaft design lowers the engine profile and shifts the outboard's center of gravity forward on the transom for better balance and smoother operation.

For operator convenience, Suzuki has added a user adjustable tilt limit switch to prevent the motor from tilting past a pre-set limit. Two freshwater flush ports make flushing the cooling system easy, even with the boat in the water. And a three-piece cover provides easy access to the engine for routine maintenance.

With the introduction of the new DF150 and DF175 for 2006, Suzuki now offers boaters a complete line of advanced 4-stroke outboards, including an industry leading 27 models from 40- to 250-horsepower with advanced electronic fuel injection.
