The engine incorporates the exclusive Suzuki Dual Throttle Valve
(SDTV) digital fuel-injection system. The SDTV system uses a secondary
butterfly valve in each 39mm throttle body to control intake area
and maintain intake velocity, thereby smoothing power delivery,
especially during the off/on throttle transitions encountered exiting
a corner.
When the rider turns the twist grip, a cable opens the primary butterfly
valve and moves the throttle position sensor.
The secondary butterfly valve is opened and closed by a new type
of compact, lightweight DC motor controlled by a 16-bit electronic
control module (ECM). The primary butterfly valve determines optimum
throttle opening; the ECM reads throttle position and engine rpm
then progressively opens the secondary butterfly valve to optimize
intake velocity. The results are more seamless and more linear throttle
response and increased low-rpm and mid-rpm torque. |

The ECM also controls injector-on time (thus determining
the quantity of fuel delivered to the cylinder) and ignition timing, reading
engine rpm and throttle position to do so.
During engine startup, an Auto Fast Idle System senses the coolant temperature
and uses the DC motors in the throttle bodies to open the secondary butterfly
valves as necessary to optimize startability and smoothness.
Emissions are kept low at all times by the Suzuki Pulsed-secondary AIR-injection
(PAIR) system, which injects clean air from the airbox into the exhaust
ports to ignite unburned hydrocarbons. They're reduced even further by
a catalyst in the exhaust system of the SV650/SV650S for Europe, allowing
compliance with the Euro 2 emission requirements.
With each version of the bike, intake efficiency is improved by a big
8.5-litre airbox carrying a free-flowing, flat, pleated-element air filter
and exhaust efficiency is improved by a relatively large muffler. These
efficiencyimprovements benefit engine output. To help accommodate the
increased engine output, an air-cooled oil cooler is located at the front
of the engine.

The Road to Anywhere |
Forget route planning. Forget your atlas. It doesn't matter where
or which way you go; the Suzuki SV650/SV650S has been built to make
every trip a ride down a favourite road.
While other road users hope for a quick and easy journey, the Suzuki
SV650/SV650S rider secretly hopes to get lost. The more complicated
and varied the route, the more enjoyment there is to be had. It's
as simple as that.
Because the SV650/SV650S is a bike for those who believe that, above
all else, motorcycling should be fun. The roads are already out
there. Here's the means of rediscovering them.
Roads. Tried any good ones lately? |
